Setting up thunderbird profiles in different location

Thunderbird by default creates its data directory in user’s home directory but you can of course move it to a different location.

Follow the steps below to do that.

Install thunderbird if not installed already

Open thunderbird with profile manager only

$ thunderbird --ProfileManager

Select “Work Offline” option

Note: if you have already installed thunderbird then copy its profile data

Delete existing default profile and delete files

Create new profile and paste the data you copied earlier

Enter profile name i.e “Tofeeq”

Choose your directory where you want to place the profile data

Start thunderbird

Put in online mode or start creating your email accounts.
